PQQ Professional Indemnity Insurance requirement angers architects

Architects interested in bidding for a £55m office project in Manchester have reacted angrily to a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire requirement for a minimum of £15m professional indemnity insurance cover just to bid for the scheme. Indeed, at least one serious contender has dropped out of the running before even bidding because its current PII cover of £10m was insufficient.
As reported on bdonline.co.uk, there is a widespread view among architects that setting such a high professional indemnity barrier so early in the process has the effect of excluding small practices from the competition. Mostly they would have no problem increasing the limit of their PII cover were they to win the contract but can’t typically afford to do so just to enter a competitive bidding process |
